Tips to Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs
Exfoliate with Sugar
Sugar scrubs are an all-natural and effective way of exfoliating your skin and helping to get rid of those ingrown hairs. They are readily available at many stores near you. By helping to scrub off the top layer of your skin through the exfoliating process, you can release the ingrown hair and then either tweeze it or shave it off. Do you want to try a natural, and affordable way to do it at home? To create a sugar scrub, try the following recipe:
Ingredients:
1 Cup Sugar
½ Cup Olive Oil
Directions:
Mix ingredients together and gently apply to skin, focusing on the area in which you have an ingrown hair and wash off with warm water or simply, dry it off! If you want to make your sugar scrub more luxurious, try adding your favorite essential oil to the mix. Not a fan of olive oil? Try substituting with coconut oil.
Use Black Tea Bags
Filled with tannic acid which is shown to reduce redness and inflammation and help to soothe your skin, applying some steeped black tea bags over your ingrown hairs will help to calm down the skin and hair follicle and help to release the ingrown hair from the hair follicle. Black tea bags are a great way to get rid of unwanted ingrown hairs as they last a long time so you can have them at your disposal to use or even drink!
Directions:
Heat water, dip your tea bag in the water (make sure it’s not boiling hot before you put it on your skin) and apply it to the affected area. Let the tea bag(s) sit for two or three minutes at a time on top of where the ingrown hair is.
Apply Heat
Another great, and easy, way to remove your ingrown hair is to apply some moist heat to the affected area. Simply take a warm washcloth and gently place it over your skin where the ingrown hair is. Allow it to sit there for around five minutes or until the skin is soft and moist. The heat from the washcloth will help to relax the hair follicle and will make it easier for you to remove the hair. Before applying a moist towel, make sure that the heat is enough that you can stand. It may feel okay for the first couple of minutes but after awhile, the washcloth could become too hot.
Do you want to prevent future ingrown hairs? Make sure that you are exfoliating regularly after laser hair removal and if you see any of sign of ingrown hair try any of the aforementioned tricks. If you are shaving between laser treatments, try shaving in the direction that your hair grows, shower with warm water, apply a shaving cream, and shave with a single-blade razor.
