Don’t Act Irrationally: How to Deal With Skin Rashes

Skin rashesNothing can put a damper on your spring break quite like having a sudden outbreak of a skin rash. Caused by things such as medications, grass, lotions, sunscreens, food, or a variety of other things, it can be hard to sometimes pinpoint what is exactly causing your skin rash to begin with. Until you can come into Dr. Toni Stockton, it’s important that you know just how to get rid of it. Read on to learn more.

Don’t Scratch It

One of the worst parts about skin rashes is that they can itch badly. However, by scratching it, you can just exacerbate the issue and cause your skin to become even more inflamed. No matter how hard you have to try, make sure that you don’t scratch your skin.

Apply Hydrocortisone Cream

Thank your lucky stars that someone invented hydrocortisone cream. As one of the easiest and most effective ways of getting rid of itchy, rashes, a  hydrocortisone cream can be purchased at virtually any drugstore, grocery store, or super center. When applying the cream, apply a thick layer to your rash. If you notice any burning or discomfort when you use it, remove it immediately with warm water and soap.

Pop an Antihistamine

In addition to hydrocortisone cream, consider an over-the-counter oral antihistamine like Benadryl to be your best friend. Benadryl is used to treat a variety of things like allergies and rashes— leaving you with more comfortable skin.

As soon as you get back from your spring break, make sure to come into Dr. Toni Stockton’s office to get your rash looked at.
