Having a few freckles on your nose is cute for a little bit, but once your freckles start to consume your face, they might not be nearly as attractive as they once were. If you feel like you’ve got a few too many freckles already this year and you keep on getting more, then we have a few suggestions for you.
Wear Sunscreen All Day, Every day
Sunscreen isn’t just for long days at the pool. We tell our patients to wear sunscreen all day, every day; no matter how hot or cold it is outside. Did you know that you are exposing your skin to freckles and other types of sun damage even when you’re driving in the car? UV rays can easily penetrate through windows and cause freckles almost instantly. Remember that the more protected your face is from the sun, the less likely you are to get some freckles.
Reapply Your Sunscreen
In addition to wearing sunscreen every day, we tell our patients to reapply it if they want all-day protection. Why? Because your sunscreen will only last so long; especially if you spend a lot of time outside. An easy solution is to apply a spray sunscreen on your face about halfway through the day (make sure that you choose one that is safe for your eyes).
Watch Your Skin Care
Retinol is one of the best topical creams that you can use to help correct fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, and hyperpigmentation, but it can also make you more prone to getting sunburns and freckles. If you are on retinol, try to avoid the sun as much as possible and make sure that you wear a thick layer of broad-spectrum sunscreen over the top of it before you leave the house in the morning.
