There’s a new neurotoxin on the market! In May 2019, the FDA approved Jeuveau™, also known as #NEWTOX, for cosmetic use on glabellar lines, commonly known at the 11s. Dr. Stockton now offers Jeuveau™ injections, along with BOTOX, for her patients in Phoenix AZ and surrounding areas.
What is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau™ is a new neurotoxin made by the California-based Evolus Corporation that is used in the treatment of glabellar lines, the lines colloquially known as frown lines, as well as forehead lines and crow’s feet. Jeuveau™ is a new alternative to BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin.
How does Jeuveau compare with BOTOX?
Jeuveau™ and BOTOX are similar products in that they are both made from the botulinum toxin type A. Both work by blocking the nerve messages sent from a muscle to the brain, keeping the muscle relaxed. Jeuveau™ can help prevent new lines from forming, as well as smooth out lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows and at the corners of your eyes.
What are the benefits of Jeuveau?
Jeuveau™ effectively erases glabellar lines that form between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and forehead lines that are the result of muscle contractions.
Who is an ideal candidate for Jeuveau?
Jeuveau™ works on dynamic wrinkles. These are the wrinkles formed by muscle contractions under the skin. Like BOTOX, when Jeuveau™ is injected into a muscle forming a wrinkle above, the botulinum toxin blocks the nerve messages being sent from the muscle to the brain. Since the brain doesn’t receive the message to contract the muscle, the muscle stays at rest and the wrinkle it causes during contraction never forms.
Jeuveau™ can be used to treat glabellar lines, forehead lines and the lines that can form at the corner of your eyes. Glabellar lines are also known as frown lines or the 11s (because they usually show up as one or two vertical creases between your eyebrows).
What are the risks with Jeuveau?
The risks of Jeuveua™ are the same as with BOTOX. Patients may have slight swelling and redness at the injection sites. Patients may develop a slight headache for the first day after their injections. These issues resolve within a day or so.
The real risk is for Jeuveau™ is to relax an unintended muscle. This can lead to issues such as a drooping eyelid. Luckily, that’s not a problem with someone as familiar with facial anatomy as Dr. Stockton and her highly trained team. Stockton Dermatology has skilled providers on staff available to handle all BOTOX and Jeuveau™ injections.
It’s important for patients to not rub their injection sites for 24 hours after their session. This can cause the Jeuveau™ to migrate to an unwanted muscle.
Is there recovery after a Jeuveau injection session?
No. Patients can return to whatever their normal activities are immediately after their session. Jeuveau™ is an excellent “lunchtime procedure.” Call to schedule a #NEWTOX appointment today!
