What is Lamprobe?

Lamprobe

Lamprobe is a device for the removal of various types of benign lesions and skin growths. The system delivers high frequency and radiofrequency energy through a small hand-held applicator that is similar to a pen. The energy produces a current that instantly electro-desiccates and electro-coagulates the minor skin irregularities. Each spot or growth takes just two to five seconds with the energy vaporizing the cells.

What are the benefits of Lamprobe?

With Lamprobe, we are able to remove a wide variety of skin growths and irregularities without needing excision. The short bursts of high frequency and radiofrequency energy don't require any topical numbing, and there isn't any recovery time. Many of these growths typically would be removed with a curette, creating a small incision on the skin. In some cases, this could also leave a small scar. That doesn't happen with Lamprobe, as the treatment uses the current to vaporize the moisture in the skin cells. This causes them to dry up and then peel off.

What skin problems can be treated with Lamprobe?

At Stockton Dermatology, we use Lamprobe all over the body for treating the following assortment of minor skin problems:

  • Age spots
  • Skin tags
  • Cholesterol deposits
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Telangiectasia
  • Fibroma simplex
  • Cysts
  • Keratoses
  • Spider angiomas
  • Benign moles
  • Sebaceous hyperplasia
  • Clogged pores
  • Milia
  • Acne pimples

How does Lamprobe work?

When the pen-like handpiece delivers the high frequency and radiofrequency energy to the targeted growth or skin imperfection, the effect is to deliver a brief burst of current. For vascular lesions, such as broken capillaries, the hemoglobin in the blood vessel absorbs the current and instantly close off. For growths such as skin tags, the moisture in the skin cells absorbs the current, instantly vaporizing or drying out the growth. It then peels off in a day or so, a little longer for larger growths such as benign moles.

Lamprobe has four different color-coded settings to match the type of skin problem. This instantly sets the proper energy to match the targeted lesion or irregularity:

  • Grey for darker skin types IV-VI on the Fitzpatrick scale
  • Red for vascular problems: cherry angiomas, dilated capillaries, spider nevi, etc.
  • Yellow for sebaceous problems: milia, cholesterol deposits, sebaceous hyperplasia, etc.
  • Brown for hyperkerantized problems: skin tags, fibromas, keratoses, etc.

How soon do I see results from Lamprobe?

Results are instant for vascular issues such as cherry angiomas. The heat delivered through the high frequency and radiofrequency energy are absorbed by the hemoglobin and this closes off the tiny vessels. Skin growths are instantly dried, but they may take a few days to fully peel away.

What are the risks of Lamprobe treatments?

The energy pulses delivered are incredibly brief, just two to five seconds. While this is enough time to vaporize unwanted cells or coagulate hemoglobin, it doesn't damage adjacent skin. There is really little to no risk with Lamprobe treatments for your minor skin growths and imperfections.

Can I combine Lamprobe treatment with other treatments?

Lamprobe can easily be combined with other treatments at Stockton. Treatments such as laser hair removal or dermal filler or Botox injections could be added to your session.
