At Stockton Dermatology, Phoenix, AZ area patients have access to general, cosmetic, and medical dermatology solutions for the skin, hair, nails, and body. However, many patients come to our practice for the diagnosis and treatment of acne. While over-the-counter products work for some patients, others require professional intervention. There are many different ways for men, women, and teenagers to tackle acne problems. Below is a sample of the treatment options available for our acne patients:
- Cryosurgery – also known as “dry ice treatment,” cryosurgery works by treating acne and reducing the appearance of scarring from past acne breakouts. Very cold carbon dioxide or liquid nitrogen is administered onto the face to unclog the pores and clear up acne over time.
- Topical antibiotics – acne is often the result of bacteria present on the skin. With the application of prescription topical antibiotics, patients can kill the bacteria on the skin and greatly reduce the acne problem they are struggling to treat. This can be used in conjunction with other treatment options for faster and improved results.
- Tropical treatments – while many topical treatments are available over-the-counter at the local drugstore, not all of these products are strong enough to address serious acne conditions. Our team can offer prescription products with higher concentration of medications that truly work to clear the skin.
- Accutane medication – when patients have been diagnosed with serious acne such as cystic or nodular acne, they need a strong, reliable product that works. Accutane is a prescription medication that is part of the retinoid family. It greatly decrease the oil on the face that contributes to severe acne and can reduce the risk of future scarring. Accutane is an oral medication that may be taken for many months to dramatically improve acne that may not have been responsive to other treatments.
