With costume makeup and just regular makeup at the forefront of most people’s Halloween costumes, we tend to see a lot of patients for acne treatment right after the Halloween holiday. But why? Because the oil from the makeup tends to sit on their skin for too long and it causes acne breakouts. Even though we would love to see your face at our office, we don’t want it to be because your Halloween makeup has broken you out. Let’s take a closer look at a few ways that you can wash your face to fully get rid of the make-up and the oil that can lead to potential breakouts.
Start With a Cleansing Wipe on your Halloween Makeup
If you’re wearing a thick layer of makeup, then you’ll want to get the bulk of it off with a facial cleansing wipe (don’t use a baby wipe). These wipes are usually soaked in a concentrated face wash solution that will help you get rid of most of the oil that’s on your skin. Plus, because they’re disposable you can just throw them away right after.
Follow Up With a Cleanser
Next, to get the rest of the makeup off, make sure that you wash your face with a facial cleanser and some warm water. Make sure though that you use a cleanser that’s catered to your skin type. For instance, if you have acne-prone skin then use an acne face wash. Or, if you have dry skin then use a dry skin face wash.
Toner
Once you have washed your face, then you can follow up with a facial toner. Toners are designed to get rid of excess dirt and oil that may still be on your skin even after you have washed it. To use a toner, all you have to do is dab a little bit of the product onto a cotton pad and then rub it into your skin.
